Watch this film, circle these folk.

Did you see the enchanting Midnight in Paris? I loved it. Set in one of the world’s most beautiful, walkable, livable, lovable cities – to quote my father, who I am missing much at the moment. It is full of art, romance, and a call to stop longing for things past and move forward. And that’s just what I must do, in ways big and small…

I have loved keeping ‘summer hours’ and having the time to indulge my G+ addictions. However, having settled my kids in school, with them finally doing full days, there is a pile of websites and other business communications to be written, that I can no longer avoid. So I must hie me hence to my freshly spic-and-spanned office, to produce copy.

Posts and hanging out will have to be better planned, but that’s probably a good thing. If nothing else, I will savour them more. Last night’s hangout was a stand-out, with some hangout stalwarts, some of whom have been around from the beginning of limited beta (for me, it was early July).

Some of the highlights: Trey’s tales of shooting and trouble-shooting, circling the globe and circle struggles!; lively discussion about Occupy Wall Street and Mozie (Michael Mozart) reporting as a citizen, since there has been so little coverage; artists, Daria and Samantha sharing what they are doing; David, back from Hawaii, sunburnt and ready to serve!

So, here is my roll-call in terms of people to circle, if you haven’t already. If I don’t mention you, I am trying to do this in a measured, honest way. I aim to talk about people I know and want to recommend in a loose order of priority for me, with all the personal and really, inconsequential, reasons that entails.

Shout-out to matthew rappaport, movie guy and a very prolific poster and hanger-outer with his own show (just check his page or do a search, okay? I need to go upstairs!) He has a keen sense of fun and irreverence, along with un-usual suspects, Joseph Lee and Bobbi Jo Woods. Amanda Blain – I’m mentioning you, since you’ve just sprung to mind. This woman is Ms Hangouts. She needs no introduction, yet there is so much I could say about my fellow Canadian. Just check her out.

Trey Ratcliff – intrepid HDR art photographer. He was one of the first people I circled. He was too prolific a poster to ignore, especially in the early days of the field trial – smart on his part, and indicative of creative and business opportunities here, and smart on Google’s part as photos are a big part of what they do and what this integrated environment is going to look like for us users.

Michael Mozart – Mr YouTube and someone else you cannot ignore. A fountain of info and ideas.

Samantha Villenave – a bright star of what I would call the new wave of artists hitting this place at a rate of knots, and showing everybody how it’s done. She hangs out from her cozy studio en Provence, painting, drawing and making surprise doodles, if you’re lucky (the last portrait in my scrapbook bar on my profile is her work).

Daria Musk – effervescent as ever, talking about her projects (that woman works hard!) and, to our great glee, pulling out her guitar and serenading us.

Peter McDermott – a guy with a voice – and face! – for radio and podcasting. He is an example of enthusiasm, entrepreneurship and networking round here, and an all-round worthwhile guy to circle and hang out with.

David Bennett, whom I mentioned in the last post. He gets plussed ad infinitum, so I’ll give him a break, as he gets back on top of what can only be an enormous workload. He represents the ‘tech heavies’ that populated the place three months ago (a little different because he works ‘here’).

This is the best of Google Plus. It isn’t always fun, and maybe I will address that in a future post, but it is stimulating and stretching. A slice of life on steroids. Go suck the marrow of yours! Live deliberately..

Soo.

Soo… I can safely say I’ve been in Hangouts with 99% of the awesome peeps featured in this vid (I’m sure there’s more like this, to come).

Thanks for making & sharing it, matthew rappaport, I think you need to cut down on the G+ caffeine juice! Especially the kind that comes in a can.

PS – I guess Lucas Johnson was busy at Tim Hortons when this video was made? (not a bfd, man…we don’t blame ya, LOL!)
