{"id":289,"date":"2007-07-23T12:38:47","date_gmt":"2007-07-23T12:38:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bobbijowoods.com\/?p=289"},"modified":"2007-07-23T12:38:47","modified_gmt":"2007-07-23T12:38:47","slug":"kiss-my-sass-blog-archive-ive-got-the-muzak-in-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bobbijowoods.com\/?p=289","title":{"rendered":"Kiss My Sass \u00bb Blog Archive \u00bb I\u2019ve got the muzak in me."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OK.\u00a0 I like to have the radio on during the day while I work.\u00a0 It kinda makes my day go by a bit faster, and it\u2019s nice to have it on in the background.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When the radio\u2019s on, I normally listen to the classic rock station here in Minneapolis.\u00a0 And I luuurve classic rock.\u00a0 In my book, there\u2019s nothing better than\u00a0hearing some old Rick\u00a0Deringer, Steve Miller Band, Rolling Stones and Heart!\u00a0 But for some reason, ever since winter came, my reception has been a bit wonky.\u00a0 I think it has something\u00a0to do with the position of the radio (on a windowsill in my kitchen) and the fact that the sun is in a different place?\u00a0 Sounds weird, I know.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway,\u00a0the reception was really OFF one day,\u00a0so I got up and started\u00a0dialing around on the FM bar the other day and decided to tune into the local \u201clite rock\u201d slash \u201ceasy listening\u201d station.\u00a0 Because sometimes I have a hankering for some Barbara Streisand <em>Evergreen,<\/em> or old Lionel Ritchie, Kenny Loggins, and Seals &amp; Crofts.\u00a0 Nice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But after awhile,\u00a0the muzak\u00a0started to grate on me.\u00a0 Although there are moments to enjoy, when they throw on some old George Benson, 80\u2019s Whitney Houston, and James Taylor, I have to <em>leave the room<\/em> when James Blunt comes over the airwaves with his squeaky voice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They play way too much contemporary \u2018emo\u2019 music for me, and too much of the crap boy band songs that try so hard to be r&amp;b but really don\u2019t satisfy (i.e. stuff by Back Street Boys, All4One).\u00a0 Then they also throw in lots of generous splashes of whiny songs by Faith Hill, and I want to bring out the Tylenol, not to mention when they play cover songs by new country artists.<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s\u00a0Green Day\u2019s <em>Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)<\/em>\u00a0which\u00a0 seems to be played a lot whenever I go to a wedding, a party, a reunion, etc.,\u00a0and seems to have taken over the as a Big Part of The Soundtrack of (most) of My Generation.\u00a0\u00a0Since I cringe everytime I hear it\u00a0in those situations,\u00a0I get the urge to make a run for my bed and hide under the covers whenever it comes on over\u00a0the friggin\u2019 radio airwaves.<\/p>\n<p>So I\u2019ve decided that since the station has its moments\u00a0(during the Flashback Lunch hour, that\u2019s when they play the good ol\u2019 Barry Manilow and Gladys Knight),\u00a0I will continue to listen during those times.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But I would be\u00a0happier\u00a0if LITE-102.9 FM would cease and desist with all the \u201cYou\u2019re Beautiful \/ She WEEEEEL be loooved \/ Ya had a bad daaay \/ Tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet\u201d-laden crap their playlist seems chock full of.\u00a0\u00a0Because if\u00a0I\u00a0have to hear Counting Crows cover of <em>Big Yellow Taxi<\/em> Train\u2019s <em>Drops of Jupiter<\/em>, or anything by Uncle Cracker again, I <em>will<\/em> bang my head on the wall!<\/p>\n<p>PS &#8211;
