I’ve tried two hangout notice extensions for Google+ on Chrome in the past, but both failed in one or two respects.
The Quick Hangouts extension for Chrome was neat, because it showed people in my circles who were hanging out, but if you wanted to go see who was in the hangout, you had to type in the person’s name in the search box, look for the post and see if you wanted to join it.
The Google+ Hangout Check extension for Chrome showed a count of hangouts in your Chrome extensions toolbar, but would not always work, and when it was working, it only showed tiny profile photos of the participants, with no names.
With the My Hangouts for Google+ Chrome extension, now you can see WHO is in them, mouse over participants and add to circles accordingly.

Then this is the extension for you. I just released My Hangouts for Google+ to the Chrome Extension Gallery. It is a customized Hangout view to quickly view all of the active hangouts by just clicking on the icon located next to the wrench button.
Some notes
– Make sure your stream https://plus.google.com is opened at all times. I usually pin it.
– If you don’t see any hangouts (appears to be a question mark) refresh your stream manually (press F5, or Right Click > Reload)
