The Stoics tell us that from suffering comes growth. The beautiful thing of acceptance of this idea is that is gives one solace through times of suffering.

The Toaists reveal to us that the useful part of the bowl, the window, and the house is the empty space. The same is true for the human heart and mind. That when we remove from ourselves our worry, fear, anguish, and sorrow we become more useful to not only ourselves, but to those around us.

This is not to say we should not feel emotion. Sorrow allows us to understand joy. Our lowest moments allow us to appreciate our highest. The acceptance of our weakness allows us to grow and become stronger. Experience and feel these things for this is what it means to be alive. Experience them but do not let them control you. Those moments when we are able to do this are when we are able to examine ourselves, face our struggles, and resolve our issues. This is the time in which we can come to love ourselves with the purity of falling snow, which we then can extend to those around us.
