It’s been 1 month and 1 day since I started using Google+… In light of that…. Some notes…

1) I circle LOTS of people I dont know… I find you because you have a nice comment on a post i’ve seen..Perhaps you were a recommended “friend of a friend” or in some other similar manner as this… I suggest you give this a try too 🙂 Think more twitter/myspace and less facebook in this regard… It makes google+ much more interesting then just your 5 real life friends who are not posting much.

2) I do a lot of public posts. I like Comments and Pluses and Reshares… Its easier to have a convo here than on twitter.. but the ideas are the same 🙂 I post public because I might find a cool person who I havent circled back yet… because they are able to comment on my public posts. (public = twitter)

3) Hangouts are a lot of fun. I know.. I know.. the idea of video chat with random people can seems odd… but its a TON of fun to hangout with people from all over the world. Previous hangouts i’ve hosted include pictionary, charades, and “what does McDonalds have in your part of the world”… There is also some great serious conversation and business networking too.. If you are still not sure about it…+mention me and we can try it out sometime.

When Sergey Brin and Vic Gundotra asked Chee Chew (heading of Google engineering in Seattle) a few months ago how long it would take to integrate video chat into Google+, he said “it would take only a few minutes and proceeded to set it up immediately.” He had already been working on video chat in Google Talk. If this is true, imagine what will happen as Google execs ask other Google engineers to integrate other Google products into Google+ as well! I can’t wait for Google News and Google Reader and Google Books and Google Scholar and Google Alerts, for example, to be integrated into Google+ where the fairly weak Sparks exists today.

Who can see my posts? – UPDATED

Here’s a quick cheat sheet (see attached images) to help you decide who should see your posts.*

If someone doesn’t have you in their circles, your posts to them will be shown in their incoming stream (see second screenshot). If you want to get their attention, +NAME them in a post and they will get a notification.

If someone reshares something you’ve posted to Extended Circles, they will not be able to reshare it to public. The only options available would be specific circles/individuals, all circles, and Extended Circles. So if you want to make it easier for your posts to be reshared, post to Public instead of Extended Circles.
