Kiss My Sass » Blog Archive » Gay This, Gay That. Who cares?

Seems many things these days are gay.

Gay Company Approval. Gay Governors. Gay Corporate Responsibility, Gay This. Gay That.

Why is it, that–who you fuck or what kind of genitals/hormones/sex issues you have–makes any darn difference to anyone at ALL, except you, your partner, or any potential partners?

When will America have a Straight Rights Demonstration? A Pride Parade? When will straight Americans decide, because of their sexual peference/orientation, that they should let their preference or orientation dictate the way they work at their job, the way they govern people, the way they run their company?

Never. On all counts. That would be ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as the above are/have been.

Maybe with the exception of rights demonstrations, only because in my mind, I know that a) asking to be treated fairly and equally are valid and CRUCIAL as they are to ALL humans and etc. and that b) it was OK with me if you want to denote your partner as your beneficiary, next of kin, etc. But haven’t we passed that point yet? Is there more that you require from your country, for you to feel complete?

Why is it important that companies have “gay” friendly and/or “responsible” projects and/or policies? Can’t they just leave their employees alone? Isn’t treating a GLBT person differently, basically fencing them in and sort of seperating them from the rest of the world?

And why does Joe Schmoe Office Manager have to go to his company’s equivalent of a “GLBT sensitivity” meeting? So that he can be aware that because there are gay people in the office he has to treat them any differently or more special than anyone else? Why aren’t we just all treat each other equally to begin with, regardless? Isn’t that what the earlier Gay Rights advocates we became familiar with in the 60s-70s Stonewall era, were pushing for??

And why all the fuss with corporate and hiring practices? WHY does a company NEED to emphasize that they hire and/or support openly gay individuals. Can’t that just be assumed? A given? And just effing hire them? Why does this university say that they intend to hire openly gay professors and faculty? Can’t the faculty just be hired and keep their genitals & hormones out of it??

I realize ‘openly gay’ refers to being ‘out’, however don’t these people all have great ‘gaydar’, and if so, what’s the purpose of purporting that you are openly gay? Can’t your gay/lesbian colleagues/students/etc. tell??

It’s not that I take offense to someone saying, “I’m gay” it’s jsut that a) it’s really none of my business, and b) what does you or I being gay have to do with whatever relationship you and I have, as a teacher/student, colleague, employer/employee, etc.

Do you see where I’m going with this? So you’re gay. Or lesbian. Or on the fence, or you are in between sex changes. Or whatever That’s great. But…so effing what?

I frankly do not give a shit. And I certainly don’t let it dictate what I think of you otherwise, as a person.

For those of you still confused…let me pose this to you. How do you feel about me telling you that I have a thing for ball-gags? Wouldn’t that constitute TMI? Wouldn’t you rather have a boil implanted onto your ass?

Thought so. Now let’s just be friends and cut out all this other bullshit.
